CoRe Reads is our summer book club where we invite you to read a piece of fiction with us. While often providing some much-needed light-hearted escapism, fiction can also provide a fascinating backdrop to discuss important themes in conflict resolution.
This year we have chosen to read The Peacemaker’s Code by Deepak Malhotra. Hosted by Amanda Semenoff in early September.
I first heard about the book while listening to HBR’s After Hours Podcast. They start discussing the book at the 25-minute mark of the episode if you are curious to what inspired me to choose this book.
“Imagine what would happen if an alien spaceship landed on earth and you knew nothing about them …. And you could only send one person to talk to them, who would you send?”
We will come together at the September Speaker Series event (date to be announced soon) to explore questions raised by the book.
This book has been self-published through Amazon. You can order a copy with our affiliate link here. We understand that some people may choose to avoid ordering books through Amazon, in which case, your local library may also be able to provide access either to a copy of the book or to the Kindle eBook.
In advance of our September CoRe Reads session, Amanda Semenoff and Darsey Meredith will be releasing a six-part video series to accompany our summer reading.
Each week, we will look at one section of the book (which is conveniently split into titled parts) and briefly discuss the elements and themes that most drew our interest. We will try our best to keep spoilers to a minimum, but we do recommend that you read along with us, and then let us know if there is anything you think we missed!
Our videos will be released on Mondays, and linked below, so come back each week here to engage with us as we read through The Peacemaker’s Code.
To share your thoughts on the book, join us on Twitter (@CoReClinic), and use the hashtag #CoReReads, and join us at our online CoRe Reads discussion group on Monday, September 13th at noon-1:30pm Pacific time.
